For conversations that belong to both countries at once: preparing to go, coming home, sending money, and the practical and personal business of a life split across two places.

What this board is for

  • Preparing to leave Nepal. What people wish they had known, done or packed.
  • Coming home. What worked, what the savings went into, and what reintegration was actually like - the part nobody plans for.
  • Remittance, comparing routes on the landed amount rather than the advertised fee.
  • Family separation, which is the hardest part of this for most households and the least discussed.
  • Documents across borders - authentication, recognition, getting a Korean qualification counted in Nepal.

The thing worth saying out loud

Four or five years apart is hard on everyone involved, in ways that do not show up in the remittance figures: children growing up at a distance, marriages under strain, parents ageing. It is normal to find this difficult and it is not a failure of character.

If you are struggling, help exists. In Korea, public mental health centres operate in every district, counselling is available through migrant support centres, and a multilingual helpline runs around the clock. Medical and health covers provision.

The written reference

Nepal and Korea covers the routes, recognition and policy between the two countries, work routes to Korea covers returnee employment, and remittance, cargo and flights covers moving money and goods.

Before you go

The posts that help most are from people a few months ahead, so this is a reasonable place to ask the practical questions nobody prints.

What people wish they had packed. What the first month actually cost. What they told their family to expect, and whether that held. How they set up remittance before leaving rather than after. What they did about a phone, a bank account and a way to be reached.

EPS: applying from Nepal covers the official sequence, and this board covers what the official sequence does not mention.
