For people living in Nepal, wherever they are from. Neighbourhoods, services, recommendations and the local knowledge that no guide can keep current: which tanker supplier is reliable, which road is dug up, which clinic has a doctor in on Saturdays.

What this board is good for

  • Recommendations for a tradesperson, a tutor, a mechanic, a clinic. Local word of mouth is the real search engine here.
  • Neighbourhood questions before you rent, including the ones a landlord will not answer honestly: drainage in the monsoon, water supply, noise.
  • Things that just changed - a road closure, a strike, an office that moved, a price that jumped.
  • Buying and selling, particularly when somebody is leaving and clearing a flat.

What belongs elsewhere

Anything specifically about being a foreign national - visas, permits, what you may own - is better at foreigners in Nepal, where the people who have done it are.

For the written reference, Nepal covers how the systems work and local covers the individual cities. Verified contact details are in the directory.

Posting well

Say which city and which area, and be specific. "Looking for an electrician in Lalitpur, near Jhamsikhel, for a water pump" gets an answer; "need an electrician" does not. And if a recommendation worked, say so - that is what turns a thread into something worth reading.

Buying, selling and handing things on

One of the most practical uses of a board like this in Nepal.

People leave constantly, usually at the end of a contract, and a flat of furniture, appliances, a bicycle or a vehicle goes with them. Posting what you are clearing, or what you are looking for, works better here than any marketplace, because the audience is people in your situation.

Meet in person, check that things work before paying, and pay on collection rather than in advance. Shopping covers the second-hand market more broadly.
