Schools and colleges listed by board, medium of instruction, fee range and location - the four things that actually narrow a choice.
What to ask before enrolling
- Which board, and where that leads. The curriculum determines what a child can transfer into later, which matters enormously if you may move country.
- Medium of instruction, and whether it is genuinely the stated language throughout.
- The full fee, including admission, annual charges, transport, meals, uniform and examination fees. The headline tuition is rarely the cost.
- Admission documents, including what is needed for a child educated abroad, translated and authenticated.
- The academic year, and what happens if you arrive mid-year.
- Transport, and the actual journey time at the actual hour.
International schooling is effectively concentrated in the Kathmandu valley, which is a real constraint on living elsewhere with school-age children. Education covers the options and the documents, and education covers how the Nepali system is structured.
Visiting, which is worth the time
Places at the better schools are limited and admission is not purely administrative, so visit rather than applying on paper alone. Ask to see a classroom in session rather than only the reception, and ask how many children are in the year group.
If you are arriving mid-year, contact the school as soon as you have dates. The academic year does not align with the Gregorian calendar, and a mid-year entry needs arranging rather than assuming.
Get listed
Schools and colleges can submit details through partner registration. We record board, medium, fee range and languages, and verify before publishing. Fees change annually, so if a listing is out of date tell us.
The full cost, and the calendar
Two things that catch families.
The headline tuition is rarely the cost. Admission fees, annual charges, transport, meals, uniform, books, examination and activity charges are commonly separate, and at some schools they add a substantial amount. Ask for the total for a year, in writing.
The academic year does not align with the Gregorian calendar, and a mid-year arrival needs arranging rather than assuming. Contact the school as soon as you have dates, and ask what support exists for a child joining a term in progress.
