Doctors, accountants, architects, engineers, tutors and other licensed professionals, recorded with the languages they work in - which for a foreign resident is often the deciding factor.

What to check before engaging someone

  • The licence. Regulated professions in Nepal have their own councils, and registration is verifiable. Ask for the number.
  • The specific experience. A general accountant and one who handles foreign-owned companies are different services.
  • Fees in writing before work starts, including what is excluded.
  • Language, honestly assessed. "Good English" varies. For anything consequential, confirm it in a first conversation rather than assuming.
  • Whether they will put advice in writing. Verbal advice you cannot refer back to is worth less than you paid for it.

For medical practitioners, healthcare covers how to navigate the system and the hospital directory covers facilities. For legal and tax matters, legal services is the right category.

Two habits worth keeping

Get it in writing. A written quote before work starts and written advice afterwards are worth the small awkwardness of asking, and they are what you refer back to when something is disputed.

Get a second opinion on anything expensive or irreversible - a medical procedure, a structural decision, a tax position. It is normal practice here and nobody will take offence at being asked for time to consider.

Get listed

Licensed professionals can submit details through partner registration. We record discipline, languages and registration, and we verify the licence before publishing - which is the whole value of appearing here.

What the language field actually means

We record the languages a professional works in, and it is worth knowing what that claim covers.

It means they can conduct the consultation in that language. It does not mean they will produce documents in it, and for anything official the document requirement is set by the body receiving it rather than by your professional.

So for a matter that generates paperwork, ask two separate questions: which language will we talk in, and which language will the documents be in. Legal services covers certified translation.
