Every EPS quota announcement triggers a wave of rumour. Here is how to read the official notice and work out what it means for your own application.
Quota announcements are published by the EPS Korea Section under the Department of Foreign Employment, and mirrored by HRD Korea. Everything else - social media posts, agent messages, screenshots - is secondary and frequently wrong.
What a notice contains
A complete announcement specifies four things:
- The sector - manufacturing, agriculture and livestock, fishery, construction, or service
- The number of applicants who may register, which is not the number who will be selected
- The registration window, usually two weeks
- The exam format - CBT or PBT, and the test period
If any of those four is missing from what you are reading, you are not reading the official notice.
Reading the sector split
Manufacturing carries the largest allocation in most years and the highest competition. Agriculture and fishery quotas are smaller but the application-to-quota ratio is often better, and the physical requirements are different rather than easier.
Choose the sector you can actually work in for four years, not the one with the best odds. Sector change after arrival is restricted.
The timeline that follows
A typical cycle, from announcement to departure:
| Stage | Typical gap |
|---|---|
| Announcement to registration close | 2 weeks |
| Registration to EPS-TOPIK | 1-3 months |
| Exam to results | 4-6 weeks |
| Results to skill test | 1-2 months |
| Skill test to roster entry | 1 month |
| Roster to employer selection | 1 month to 2 years |
| Selection to departure | 2-4 months |
The roster wait is the unpredictable stage, and no fee paid to anyone shortens it. Employers select from the roster using criteria including exam score, age and sector experience.
Verify before you act
Three checks before you pay anything or believe anything:
- Does the notice appear on the official EPS Korea Section website?
- Does the date on the document match the current cycle?
- Is the payment being requested to a government account, with a receipt?
The official process has no intermediary. Any request for money outside the published fee schedule is a private arrangement with no standing, and reporting it protects the next applicant.
