Longer pieces about the things that take a whole afternoon to work out the first time. Not a procedure with a document list - that is how-to guides - but how a system actually works, what it really costs, and what nobody tells you.

The kind of thing here

How deposits work in Korean renting and what protects yours. Why your first Korean bank account has transfer limits. What a Nepali hospital expects of a patient's family. How the three tiers of Nepali government divide the work. What an insurance policy excludes at altitude. Why a document needs authenticating in the country that issued it.

The common thread: each is a thing that is obvious once and bewildering before.

Where the written sections already go deep

A great deal is covered in the reference sections, and worth reading before waiting for a guide:

Tell us what is missing

The useful guides come from questions people actually asked. If something took you a frustrating afternoon, tell us or post it at questions and answers - that is where the next guide comes from.

What makes a good one

So you know what to expect, and what to ask for.

A good guide here explains why a system works the way it does, not just what to do, because that is what lets you handle the variation you will actually meet at the counter. It gives a realistic timeline including the slow step. It says what things cost, with a date. And it names the point where you should stop reading and ring the authority.

What it does not do is pretend to certainty it does not have. Where practice differs from the published rule, the guide says so. How-to guides covers the step-by-step companion.
